Gaydon 2008 Visit

E-mail Print

After an enjoyable weekend exhibiting their Land Rover at the Gaydon Heritage Land Rover Weekend, Loughborough Land Rover Club member Mat Coley has written synopsis of his antics.

So? how did little old me end up exhibiting at the Gaydon Heritage weekend in Land rovers 60th year I hear you ask. Well! One wet Sunday evening in March I stuck a couple of pic’s on one of the forums of the 130 and within minutes I had an email from someone inviting me to attend the show for free as an exhibitor.

I was asked to attend to put my 130 on the working Land rovers stand, so that’s exactly what I did, only trouble was it meant I had to clean and polish the dam thing! But never the less I got there and had a great weekend. The highlight of which must have been driving Devon 4x4’s 110 trayback around to our stand on the Sunday morning it really is a stunning vehicle with so much attention to detail shown throughout the build, I’d never driven a V8 or an Auto until I jumped into that seat but it didn’t take long to get the hang of it! The only criticism I have and I bet you all know what’s coming…………. It should have had a diesel V8! No only kidding that’s just me and my strange affliction to all things petrol, well except my chainsaws!

Since getting back from the show I have read an awful lot of reviews mostly slating the lack of trade area, Well let me try and balance it by sticking up for the show, I found it very refreshing to turn up at show and actually get to look at Land Rovers, that may sound daft but most shows now are all about buying bolt on bits n pieces. Gaydon is about the Land Rover and that’s why this year to celebrate the Landy’s 60th anniversary they made room for an extra heritage run on the Saturday. Also the Centre arena all though it was smaller than last year had Land rover related activities not ferret racing or sheep dogs rounding up hens as seen at a rather wet show some where in Northamptonshire a few years ago! Ok some people say the twist off ramp is only interesting if you like to think about a cars engineering that’s true until you see everything from a police disco to a six wheel 150 defender fire engine having a go for the shear hell of it!

All in all it was a good weekend and the weather was fairly kind as exhibitors we received free passes for the whole weekend and also a commerative plague for attending. I’ve included a few pictures below and would also like to thank Mr & Mrs Shooter & Leake for coming along for the weekend and keeping me company it is appreciated, oh and “SORRY!!” for waking you all up on Sunday when I couldn’t remember how to turn off Mr Leake's reverse bleeper!
